# Excel CHAR Function

## What is the CHAR function in Excel?

The CHAR function is one of the TEXT functions of Excel.

It Returns the character specified by the code number from the character set for your computer.

We can find this function in TEXT category of insert function Tab.

## How to use CHAR function in excel

1. Click on an empty cell (like F5).

2. Click on the fx icon (or press shift+F3).

3. In the insert function tab you will see all functions.

4. Select TEXT category.

5. Select CHAR function

6. Then select ok.

7. In function arguments Tab you will see CHAR function.

8. Number section is a number between 1 and 255 specifying which character you want.

9. You will see the results in formula result section.

We can Find the ASCII Character of any number between (33-122) with CHAR function:

you can use CHAR(10) to insert a line break. Text wrap must be enabled to see the line break take effect
