Keyboard Shortcut to cut a cell value

In Excel, you may need to cut a cell value for several reasons. One reason is to shorten the text in a cell that is too long to fit in the available space. Another reason is to remove unwanted characters or spaces from the beginning, end, or middle of a text string.

Cutting a cell value allows you to trim the excess characters and make it easier to read and manage your data. It can also help to save storage space and improve the performance of your spreadsheets, especially if you have large amounts of data.

You can use Excel’s built-in functions such as LEFT, RIGHT, and MID to cut cell values based on specific criteria, such as the number of characters or the position of certain characters within a text string.

Keyboard Shortcut to Cut Cell Value

To cut a partial cell value using a keyboard shortcut in Microsoft Excel, you can follow these steps:

  1. Select the cell containing the value you want to cut.
  2. Press the “F2” key on your keyboard to enter edit mode.
  3. Use your arrow keys or your mouse to move the cursor to the point where you want to cut the value.
  4. Hold down the “Shift” key and press the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard.
  5. While holding down those two keys, press the “X” key to cut the selected portion of the cell value.

Alternatively, you can also use the “Alt” key instead of the “Ctrl” key in step 4. This will work in most cases, but some keyboard layouts may require the use of the “Ctrl” key instead.

Note that this method only works for cutting a portion of a cell value. If you want to cut the entire value of a cell, you can simply select the cell and press “Ctrl+X” on your keyboard.

  3. Once you have selected the cells, click on the border of the selection and hold down the left mouse button.
  4. Drag the selection to the new location where you want to move the cells.
  5. While still holding down the left mouse button, right-click on the new location. This will open a menu.
  6. In the menu, select “Move Here” and then release the left mouse button.

The selected cells will now be cut from their original location and moved to the new location you specified. If you want to copy the cells instead of cutting them, hold down the “Ctrl” key while dragging and dropping the selection.
